To get your motorcycle License, you would still need to complete the Driver Education Program along with the Motorcycle Safety Course.
REQUIREMENT FOR APPLICANT UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE
DRIVER EDUCATION
All applicants under 18 years of age and all new drivers regardless of age, must have satisfactorily completed an approved driver education course of not less than 30 hours classroom instruction and six (6) hours behind-the-wheel driver training. A certificate from a Maryland or an out-of-state driving school must be presented when appearing for the driver’s examination. Driver education may be obtained through some public schools, parochial or private high schools, and driving
schools licensed by the Motor Vehicle Administration.
MOTORCYCLE SAFETY COURSE
Applicants under 18 years of age must also successfully complete an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses are provided at training centers operated by the Maryland Motorcycle Safety Program. The Motorcycle Safety Program’s Basic Rider Course or Alternate Basic Rider Course are the approved courses for applicants under 18 years of age. The courses include classroom and “on the motorcycle” riding experience. Courses are conducted primarily between March and November of each year. Training motorcycles and some safety equipment are provided. Students who successfully complete an approved course receive a Completion Certificate to obtain a class “M” License. If this is their first license, a Driver Education Course Completion Certificate is also required. 3 HR D&A CERTIFICATE
Applicants who have an out-of-country or Armed Forces license must also successfully complete the 3-Hour D&A Awareness Course.
