We are excited to have you as a part of our driver education program, where you will learn the skills and techniques to be a safe driver.

You are registering to complete the Maryland State Certified Driver Education Program through Life Skills Academy.

The driver education program consists of two parts: Classroom and Behind the Wheel

CLASSROOM – Students must attend 30 hours of classroom instruction. Classroom topics include basic driving techniques, rules of the road, alcohol, and driving, defensive driving, and various driving environments. To pass the classroom part of the driver education course, you must attend all 30 hours of class, participate in class activities and score a minimum of 80 on each test/final exam. 

BEHIND THE WHEEL – Students need to have 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. In-car skills include defensive driving skills, basic maneuvers, parallel parking, and road driving under various conditions. To pass the behind-the-wheel part of Driver’s Education, you need to complete all six hours and pass the performance standards for each lesson.
